New Features and Opportunities . . .
PDT-Windows version 5.6.1 adds the following:
Justify Field (or Column) The Justify Field
option can help you do many things:
* Shift the contents of a field either right or left.
For example: [1234--] shifted right would become [--1234].
* Strip ASCII characters from the left or right side of fields. For
example: [005678] stripped of leading 0s would become [ 5678].
* Pad fields. For example: [ 5678] padded with leading
0s would become [005678].
* As a substitute for Search and Replace when you only want to replace a
character if it appears on the left (or right) side of a field (and not replace that
character if it appears elsewhere in the field).
Bug Fix -- Evaluation Versions Only Earlier
versions (Evaluation versions only) would not let you edit files greater than about 2
gigabytes -- fixed. All versions should now let you edit files up to 18
quintillion bytes in size!
PDT-Windows version 5.5.5 adds the following:
Windows 2000 Version 5.5.5 updates
PDT-Windows to ensure stability under Windows 2000, including fixing a bug in the installation
utility we use to help you install PDT-Windows.
PDT-Windows version 5.5.3/5.5.4 added these features:
Explore Fields This is a new, faster and much
easier way to define fields, edit field definitions, or explore or figure out which
characters or what types of fields are in files. This option could become invaluable
to you!
Read COBOL Copybooks This option lets you read a COBOL
copybook to define the fields in a file. If you work with COBOL-generated data
files, this feature can eliminate the need to manually define each field -- saving you
lots of time, eliminating errors. Some restrictions apply, so please read
PDT-Window's on-line help. (Version 5.5.4 refined this option.)
Split Wide Fields This option will divide long records or
fields into, basically, screen-size chunks -- to make it easier for you to scroll
left-right through data, even if you haven't defined any fields.
Default Record Length If you often work with files
that have the same record length, you can now set the "default record length"
and PDT-Windows will open all unknown files using the record length you specify,
instead of PDT's own default -- 78. Unknown means any file for which you
haven't saved a PDT structure file.
More Font Options You may now select different fonts and font
sizes -- to better see your data, or to see more data at once.
Mouse Discovery When you move the mouse over your data,
PDT-Windows now tells you which ASCII character is under the mouse cursor (in the
"Char:" Information Box) . This can help you determine what's in a file,
and can also help you figure out what types of fields exist and where fields begin and
end.
